Govt raises North East fund to Rs 16,400 cr

Government has raised the allocation for several schemes in the North East from Rs 14,365 crore (Rs 143.65 billion) to Rs 16,400 crore (Rs 164 billion).

The Finance Minister P Chidambaram said this while presenting the 2008-2009 Budget in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

The government has also allocated Rs 500 crore (Rs 5 billion) identifying urgent needs of development programmes of border areas like Arunachal Pradesh.
