Will cement stocks do well in future? Market expert Pranav Sanghavi replied to many such readers' queries during an hour-long chat on Wednesday. Here is the transcript:
PRANAV SANGHAVI says, Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the chat. Let's begin.
navin asked, Hi Pranav, Good Afternoon. I hold 1000 shares each of RPL and RNRL at 121 and 88. Kindly advice if they are worth for long term and shud I accumlate more on dips. Also give me your call on Ispat Industries. Thank you
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, at 2007-11-07 12:05:23Hi Navin, well both the stocks have run up substantially and especially RNRL where there is no actual future business as of now to discount unlike RPL which has a refinery going on stream sometime next year. RPL you can hold witha 2 year perspective and RNRL only after confirmation of various news flows about the gas settlement with RIL. Ispat has been under BIFR at one point. Unless the promoters have strong plans to pump in money to revive the company or their quarterly results show consistent growth in turnover and capital one should stay away.
ganesh asked, Should i buy RPL now at 217 or wait till further dip?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would wait for further dips.
anis asked, I am holding 80 TCS @ 1307. Please advise if I hold opn for another year if I will get good returns or should I book loss here.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would rather book a loss and get into a growth stock for that time frame and then get in to TCS at a later stage when things are more clear as to what steps the company takes to combat the falling dollar. Although the company looks to grow handsomely in dollar terms but eroding dollar value in Rupee terms will hamper its Rupee performance.
deepak73 asked, hello sir i have 50 shares infosys and 28 shares l&t also i have 200 shares of unitech ,50 shares wipro 200 shares petronet lng what should i do hold on them and yes i do have rpl also 300 shares which i am looking for longterm
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would surely hold on to L&T, Unitech. The tech sector wills till remain a bit lack lustre for some more time. RPL should give you decent returns if you hold it for another couple of years.
priyaaggarwal asked, Is it a good time for a novice to enter the market considering a 1 year time period
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, You could look at entering but on a correction. Currently the market have seen only a 3-4% declline from its highs. I would like to get in when it corrects by say 10 to 15% like it did a couple of months back.
Deepak asked, Hi Pranav, I hold shares of REL, RPL, RNRL, PetronetLNG, and Tata Power and have already seen a lot of rise in almost all of them since the last 4-5 months when bought them. I have no need for money right now. Shall I still need to sell these and wait for a correction? Or can I expect these to have higher prices in say 6-8 months later(taking into consideration the temporary dips they may went through).
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, If you are an active trader you must always book profits at higher levels. You can always get back into the stock at times of corrections. RPL, RNRL Petronet all are momentum stocks. So in a correction they will fall sharply. Where as REL and Tata Power are the leading players in the power sector and if you hold them for a longer term you willsee good returns.
Mubsy asked, Can i enter RNRL now ..If not then at what levels shd i enter. I can hold it for 2-3yrs.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would wiat for further fall.
santhanam asked, I am a shareholder of R I L.I am not having any Pan card or D'mat accont.I want to sell my shares. what is the procedure.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Unfortunately right now SEBI has made it mandatory for all investors to have a PAN No. and Demat a/c. So to open an account with a Broker you will have to get both.
Giree asked, Hi Pranav, Good Afternoon. I hold 300 share of IOB and 500 share of TTML, brought thru initial IPO What is your call... Hold or Sell??
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Hi Giree, if you are a long term investor you could hold on to them. IOB surely hold TTML you could swithc to a better telecom player.
munira asked, i have 50 infosys.. what should i do??hold it or sell it ??whats future of infosys shares
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, In the short term the IT pack willbe affected by the Rupee appreciation. So in the short term they will remain underperformers as I had mentioned in my previous chats.
Marc asked, What are the future prospects of Tech Mahindra ? It seems to be going down and down. When are the BT contract revenues going to start adding to its kitty and will it make any difference ?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I think from FY08. The problem is that all the ITstocks are getting hammered by the Ruppee appreciation and Tech Mahindra is no exception. But I think they will post betterresults than most ofits peers at least in percentage terms. If you can hold for a period of 12 months you could hold on.
prakash asked, Hi Pranav, I want to buy MUDRA LIFESTYLE for 2 years, what is your suggestion
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, The retail segment like the telecom segment is witnessing a boom. I think the retail segment should rise steadily for the next 3 to 4 years. And Mudra will benefit from the same.
ANUJ asked, SIR, WE HAVE SHARE OF POWER GRID. SHOULD I SOLD IT OR NOT.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Surely hold on and with a longer term perspective too.
girish asked, hello sir good morning ! can i buy indian hume
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, They are a niche pipe maker. With the infrastructure boom that we are witnessing you could look at the stock.
partha asked, i purchased kouton at 415 now 660 can i sold it or not, i have plan to purchase gmr pls give suggestion on this issue
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, The retial industry is witnessing a boom and eventhe garment segments. Koutons has large expansion plans and if they deliver them the company should do better in the future. I would hold on.
Mubsy asked, At what level i shd enter powergrid ? I can hold it for 1-2 yrs. Please suggest.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Anything around 120 levels or below should be a good buy.
sudhir asked, I HAVE 50 EACH OF PUNJ LLOYD, ABG SHIPYARD & BHARTI SHIPYARD SHOULD I HOLD OR SOLD. I CAN HOLD FOR NEXT 3 TO 4 YEARS
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, You could hold on to Punj for sure. As far as the other companies go, I would track their performance closely.
ps asked, What are your views on US recession and impact it may have for the market?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, We will have a marginal impact I think. I say this because I strongly believe our growth story is majorly dependent on our local growth and not an heavily export dependent economy like say China. So, even if the US amrkets go in to a recession we will be affected but not as drastically.
ps asked, Will election next year have a major impact ? When should I look at booking partial profits ? I am holding for more than a year so have no tax implications.
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, We are at all time highs. You could book partial profits and wait for a correction. The election will surely have an impact as it will create some sort of uncertainty as to who will be ruling the country and if the BJP alliance comes in will they continue the good work that the Congress has done etc.
ganesh asked, On wat factors share price of RPL mostly depends upon?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Basically people are discounting its 2009 and 2010 years earnings. But giving it such a high premium in the current year is not justifiable. But noone can dictate the markets.
ps asked, What is your take on Walchandnagar Industries ?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, They have a decent balance sheet but they also have untapped assetslike land in the company. I would surely hold on.
guest asked, hello sir, can i buy inox leisure
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Yes. They have decent expansion plans and are showing good resutls for their existing complexes.
ps asked, Is torrent power good to enter at these levekls?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would wait for corrections to enter Torrent.
ravii asked, Hi Pranav i hve applied mudra & rligare IPO for 5 lots can i get allotment...& Market will decline further......wht will be the feuter of rnrl i hve 350@191rs .....?thx
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Your allotment will depend on the ratios that the company declares based on the number of applications it receives. Markets could correct a bit more.
ramesh asked, Rs 30,000 in my hand. I want purchase some share at monday 12.11.07. so plz give some idea that which share i purchase. I new in this share market
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, I would wiat for corrections to get in. But youcould look at stocks like, RIL, DLF, L&T, BHEL, SBI, Bharti, RCom on declines.
ps asked, Cement space has been underperformeing hte markets. can I enter at these levels ?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Yes I am still bullish on the cement sector and strongly believe that the demand will outstrip the supply in the future even though there are newer capacities going onstream in a couple of years.
devinder asked, I've 100 share each of RNRL,RPL,POWERGRID CORP and UCO Bank, purchased at 92,175, 136,and 41 resp. I'd like to keep it for long term prospective i.e 2 year. Pleas
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, You could hold all of them for that time frame. RNRLI would wait forthe outcome of its settlement with RIL. The other 3 I don't see any problem in holding.
rahul asked, What is listing price do you expect for Mundra port? Will it beyond 600?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, It will depend on the oversubscription, the demand from FII's and also the markets sentiment on that particular day.
daspeedee asked, what shud b the strategy for IFCI.what is ur 6 months price target ?
PRANAV SANGHAVI answers, Now that the stock has touched a high of Rs. 100 plus, I think nowthe valuation the company receives from
