Global steel production is likely to go up this year, thanks mainly to increased production from countries like China and India, the International Stainless Steel Forum said.
A report from the forum said that China continues to lead steel production globally.
The world production of steel is expected to go up by 5.1 per cent this year as China, the world's largest steel producer, continues to lead growth, it said.
Global output is estimated to increase to 29.8 million metric tonne this year. It said production in Asia may rise 12 per cent to 16.85 million tonne driven by China and India.
The report said the main reason for the increased steel demand is China's economic growth that exceeded 10 per cent in the past five quarters, fueling demand for stainless steel, used in cookware and building.
