Farm products prices remain steady

Farm commodity prices have shown a mixed trend in different centers throughout the country, according to a data released by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Prices of most farm products remained study, but some commodities have shown mixed trends across the country during the week ended May 4.

Wheat prices remained steady at 13 reporting centres and declined at 4 centres. Wheat prices have shown increase only in Delhi. The government has notified extension of duty free import of wheat till December 31 this year.

Sugar prices remained steady in majority of the centres and declined at a number of centres. Directorate General of Foreign Trade had lifted the ban on exports of sugar in January.

Gram prices remained steady over the week in most centers and declined at Delhi, Jaipur and Shillong. Tur and dal prices were also steady.

Public sector agencies have contracted to import of 437,000 tonne pulses. This includes contract for 258,000 tonne yellow peas, 132,000 tonne urad, 15000 tonne moong, 30000 tonne tur and 2000 tonne dunpeas.

Prices of rice, tur, and mustard oil remained steady while the prices of tea, sugar, gram and onion decline in Delhi in the week ended May 4.

Prices of wheat, vanaspati, potato and groundnut oil, however, have shown an increase over the week.

Prices of mustard oil and milk have remained steady for one month; that of atta for six months and that of packed salt for two years.
