Reliance Communications chairman Anil Ambani on Thursday met Finance Minister P Chidambaram and senior DoT officials, even as his company started examining the books of Hutchison Essar Ltd for a possible bid.

Ambani met Chidambaram in the national capital presumably to discuss issues related to his company's intended bid to acquire Hutch-Essar. He, however, did not take any questions from the media after the meeting.

The RCoM chief also met DoT secretary D S Mathur, sources said, adding he is also likely to meet Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran later in the day.

Ambani's meeting comes just a day after Vodafone's CEO Arun Sarin and Essar chairman Shashi Ruia met Chidambaram on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Reliance Communications also started due diligence of Hutchison Essar Ltd in Mumbai. Vodafone had early this week initiated the process, while Essar's bankers also began studying Hutch-Essar's books on Wednesday.
