Ambika Soni, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture has expressed the hope that the union finance ministry would clear the concept of setting up budget hotels and convention centres soon.

She stated this while addressing the 5th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday. Soni said that her ministry was working on a number of ideas and it would be made public soon so that the NRIs could invest in India.

"We have sent our proposals to the union finance ministry about the budget hotels and convention centres and we are hopeful that it would be cleared. We have vast potential in the tourism sector and you could invest in it. We are trying to create a level playing field for some who need to be pushed," Soni later told a NRI delegate from Haryana who has settled in Taiwan. She ignored the allegation made by him that there was large-scale corruption in Indian government departments.

She also asserted her ministry's resolve to bring back the art and artifacts that had been smuggled out of India.
