Coffee exports from India has seen a fall in the first half of the year ending September.

According to the Coffee Board, exports from India, which accounts for 4.5% of global output, fell 17% in the first half of the year.

Nestle India Ltd and other companies shipped 79,055 metric tonne, compared with 94,801 tonne a year ago, the Coffee Board said on its Web site.

The beans fetched an average Rs 83,648 a tonne, up 8% from a year earlier. The board issued permits to ship 118,455 tonne between October 1 and March 27, up 16% from a year earlier.

The board said 29,888 tonne was exported in the first three months of the year, down 45% from 54,069 tonne a year earlier.

Italy and Russia were the biggest buyers of Indian coffee in the first quarter of this year accounting for 24% and 14%, respectively.

Coffee exports from India may fall 13% this year to 200,000 due to lower inventories and rising domestic demand, the Coffee Exporters' Association of India said in February. India may produce 288,000 tonne, the board had forecast in December.
