American carrier Delta Air Lines has launched a non-stop flight connecting New York and Mumbai with officials expressing confidence that it would prove popular with tourists and business people alike.
Delta has entered into arrangement with Indian carrier Kingfisher under which the latter would provide connections to Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad within two hours of the arrival of the flight in Mumbai. Other destinations would be added later.
The first flight to Mumbai flew out of New York on Thursday night.
Air Lines officials said 70 per cent of food provided would be ethnic Indian and will include vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options.
Each flight will be staffed by at least four Hindi speaking flight attendants and in-flight entertainment will include Hindi and English movies.
American carrier Continental Airlines already operates a non-stop flight between New York and Delhi and several other carriers are considering introducing similar flights.
