Intel to train 10 million teachers

"The teachers would have the knowledge of 'how, when and where' to incorporate technology tools and resources into the learning environment, Intel Corporation Chairman Craig Barret said in a statement in Bangalore on Friday.

"Through our increased efforts, we have the potential of reaching a billion students in developing nations by the end of 2010", he said adding this new effort supplements the $100 million annual commitment of Intel to improve education for young people world wide.

As part of its expanded programme, it plans to donate an additional 100,000 personal computers to classrooms in the developing nations.

Intel's 'Teach to the Future' initiative is a worldwide effort that has helped a number of teachers in promoting effective use of technology in classrooms.

The initiative incorporates the use of Internet, web page designing and student projects as vehicles of learning experience. Since 2000, Intel has trained over three million teachers in 35 countries.
