XDS plans India manufacturing unit

US-based Xtreme Defense Security, providers of auto glass security systems, on Monday said it was looking at setting up a manufacturing unit in India.

"We are planning to set up a manufacturing unit here but have not finalised anything as yet," XDS Secuirty Protekt India Private Ltd director Ranjan Majumdar told mediapersons at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on Monday.

He said the company had not taken any decision as yet on where the plant would come up in India.

XDS displayed its new safety products that keep glass intact even after accidents, natural disasters, explosions or vandalism, besides heat and Ultra Violet radiations.

"We have developed a system 'XDS Glass Protection System', which strengthens glass up to 400 per cent, and keeps it intact in its frame (in case it breaks) thereby preventing injuries from flying glass and also preventing burglaries and break-ins," Majumdar said.

The company, which has made available the product in 37 countries around the globe, plans to cover the entire country within a year, he said.

"We would cover major cities in the next three months and plan to make the product available across the country in a year's time," he said.

When asked about the life of the glass after the treatment, he said: "We offer five years warranty on the product. Strength of the glass grows with its thickness as the solution percolates into the glass and strengthens it."

It costs around Rs 6,000 for a small car to get its glass treated, he said, adding: "We do not treat the windshield as the law does not permit to do so due to other safety reasons."
