The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has signed a memorandum of understanding with Cardiff Business School of Cardiff University for collaboration on various activities including exchanges of faculty member, postgraduate students, academic information, joint research programme, joint business and industry management training programme.

Robert McNabb, dean, CBS, said, "There are several areas of common interests and priorities for both of us. There are several common areas of interest like manufacturing sector, e-commerce, leadership and entrepreneurship. CBS being a research oriented B-school hopes to be enormously benefited from its association with one of India's top management school."

Sekhar Chaudhuri, director, IIMC said, "The importance of manufacturing sector has been declining amongst the B-schools but this sort of association would help us to take lead in helping this sector. In future, there might be possibilities of jointly offering programme towards creating leaders in the manufacturing sector."

He also spoke of potential research projects in areas including the automotive sector.

Exchanges of students and faculties would surely begin with 2006, confirmed Brian Smith, international ambassador, CBS.

This association would provide students with cross culture experience, explained Chaudhuri.

Anup Sinha, dean, programme initiatives, IIMC, said the school had similar tie-ups with 30 more international B-schools but this was the first with an UK-based school.
