IIM-C student bags $100,000 job

A student of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, received a foreign offer of $100,000 as placements proceeded at the institute.

While final details of the placement season are yet to be worked out, the prominent recruiters at IIM Calcutta this year were McKinsey  & Co, BCG, AT Kearney, HSBC Bank and Deutsche Bank.

IIM Calcutta said in a release that the new recruiters this year were Barclays Capital, BNP Paribas, Dresdner Bank, UBS, IFC and SUN Group Private Equity.

A record number of 15 firms were present compared to six last year, with offers at 51 and acceptances at 42.

The largest recruiter was McKinsey & Co which made eight offers.

IIM Calcutta said Dresdner Bank and Sun Group Private Equity recruited exclusively from IIM Calcutta.

A number of these consultants and banks made the highest number of offers across all B-schools at IIM Calcutta, it added.

In 2004, IIM Calcutta had placed a record graduating batch of 242 candidates, the largest across all premier business schools.

Companies from sectors like consulting, financial services and IT were prominent at the placements.

In 2004, there were 162 offers made and 124 acceptances.

IIM Calcutta also has a lateral placement programme for students with significant work experience.

IIM Calcutta said it would continue to nurture independent thinking and the ability to explore avenues like entrepreneurship.

Lateral Placements allow both firms and students greater choice in recruitment.
