On the lines of its helpline for students appearing for Board exams, Doordarshan will air a helpline for traders to clear their doubts about the Value Added Tax, which is scheduled to come into effect on April 1.

The helpline (phone number - 23421669), will be aired on March 10 at 7:15 pm on DD-I (Delhi). It will be preceded by a series of informative programmes on VAT, said DD's executive producer Rajeev Kumar.

"There has been a lot of agitation on the issue of VAT, and through these programmes, we will be discussing about VAT at the national level.

Traders and others will also get an opportunity to get their doubts cleared or voice their views on the live phone-in helpline," Kumar said.

The three episodes of the special programme on VAT will be shown from March 7 to 9 and the 45-minute helpline will then be telecast on March 10.

The finance minister of the Delhi Government along with senior officers of sales tax department are expected to be present in the studio during the telecast of the helpline and representatives of traders' bodies will also be invited, Kumar said.
