The income tax department will set up help centres for assisting small tax payers, other than corporate and salaried tax payers from July 1, 2005. The help centres would be functional during the period from July 1 to September 9, from Monday to Friday, the income-tax department said in a release.
There would be at least one or two such help centres in the jurisdiction of each chief commissioner of income tax, which would be set up in co-operation with local trade or industry associations.
The centres, to be located outside the IT offices, would be manned by trained personnel from the IT department while the necessary infrastructure would be provided by the association.
The facilities to be provided by the help centres include helping small tax players in filling up their returns, forms, challans, computing their income, calculating tax liability and guide tax payers with tax related advice.
The income-tax department would also review the further continuance of this service after September 30, it said.
