The Tamil Nadu government is expected to allot 50 acres of land on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, the IT corridor of Chennai, to Satyam Computer Services Ltd.
"We had requested for some space on the OMR. The state government, in principle, has approved to allot the land. The extent of land to be allotted will be known only by next week. We are waiting for the papers from the government," Subu D Subramanian, director and senior vice president (manufacturing business group), Satyam Computer Services, said.
The state government, however, is likely to allot about 50 acres of land for Satyam on the OMR.
Satyam, Hyderabad-based Global IT consulting services provider, has a number of facilities in Chennai and all of them are leased.
It has taken another facility on OMR last week to accommodate 1000 people. "This is just to tide over the present requirement and we are planning to build our own campus on the Old Mahabalipuram Road," he said.
Asked about the investments to made for this new campus, he said that the company would decide the same only after receiving all the necessary papers from the state government.
Satyam's Chennai facilities presently employ 4,500 people, highest after Hyderabad. As on March 31, company's total strength including onsite, offsite, offshore and near shore was about 20,000.
