Infosys to hire 13,500 in 9 months

Continuing its hiring spree, software major Infosys on Tuesday said it would recruit 13,500 more employees in the next nine months of the current fiscal.

"Infosys will add 13,500 more employees across the globe in the next nine months," company chief operating officer and deputy managing director S Gopalakrishnan said.

He said the addition would include 7,000 more employees in the second quarter.

Infosys added 3,056 employees for the first quarter ending June 30, 2005, taking its total headcount to 39,806.

Can Infosys do a Toyota?

The company had 37,146 software professionals as on June 30, 2005, up from 34,417 as on March 31, 2005. Of the software professionals, 1,328 belong to the banking business unit.

"We are scaling up the infrastructure to accommodate 21,000 (more) people," he said.

About the attrition rate, Gopalakrishnan said it was 9.8 per cent for the first quarter of this fiscal as against 9.7 for the previous quarter.

As on June 30, 2005, the company had 75,19,350 sq. ft of space capable of accommodating 34,711 professionals and 34,58,500 sq. ft. under completion which can accommodate 21,105 professionals.
