In an effort to globalise its operations, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has signed an MoU with Egypt to collaborate for management studies development in Middle East North African region (MENA).
Announcing this, IIMA director Bakul Dholakia told reporters that under the collaborative agreement signed with Cairo-based NGO Future Generation Foundation (FGF), IIMA would conduct executive education and faculty development programmes in the MENA region.
In the programmes starting May this year, the institute would initially conduct three-week programmes each for senior/top executives and for middle level executives from the region.
Cairo-based FGF was founded in 1998 by a group of private sector leaders as a not-for-profit NGO operating under the jurisdiction of ministry of social affairs and law, government of Egypt.
Dholakia said nine faculty members would travel to Egypt for the programmes.
On why Egypt chose IIMA for the programme, he said: "The main reason is the quality they receive from Indians. Also they find it more cost effective as compared to Harvard Business School, with which they already have a tie-up."
Dholakia said that all these programmes will be certificate programmes and a full-time MBA course will be included only later.
He said setting up of a new business management institute in Egypt was also consideration.
The institute has also signed an MoU with Hindustan Lever Limited to explore possibility of setting up a retailing centre.
The main purpose of this outlet would be to exploit and enhance the existing intellectual capital engaged in retailing and augment interaction between academia and industry to promote developmental activities in organised retailing.
