Debit card stolen? Don't worry!

August 19, 2005 17:25 IST
Global payment system company Visa International on Friday said all Visa debit cards issued in India will be protected against any monetary losses, liabilities or claims due to fraudulent use of the card in case it was lost, stolen or misplaced.

The protection is part of Visa's zero liability programme.

"Visa's zero liability programme addresses cardholder concerns on fraudulent or unauthorised transactions and enhances consumer confidence in using payment cards," Santanu Mukherjee, Visa International South Asia country manager said.

ICICI Bank is the first bank in the Asia Pacific region to adopt Visa's global zero liability programme for its debit cardholders in India, the statement said.

More than seven million visa debit cards of ICICI Bank will be protected against any claim if the card is misused, the statement added.

Besides India, Visa zero liability is available to cardholders in markets such as US and Canada.
