CIBIL to publish list of defaulters

May 20, 2004 17:27 IST

The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday said the newly operationalised Credit Information Bureau (India) Ltd will publish a list of defaulters of Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million) and above.

In addition, CIBIL would also give out the details of wilful defaulters of Rs 25 lakh (Rs 2.5 million) and above against whom suits have been filed, RBI said in a release.

With this, CIBIL would disseminate these as on March 31, 2003 and onwards, RBI said.

The lists, therefore, would be displayed on the CIBIL website and not on the central bank's website, it said.

RBI, would, however continue to deal with the data relating to non-suit filed accounts, which are disseminated only to banks/financial institutions for their confidential use, it added.

CIBIL commenced operations on May 5 with a database of 55 lakh (5.5 million) consumer credit records which would help creditors to evaluate risks, reduce incidence of defaults and non-performing assets.
