The Left parties on Friday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a rollback in petroleum prices and said the Budget should conform with the Common Minimum Programme.

The government hiked petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 and 1, respectively and LPG by Rs 20 per cylinder.

The suggestion for a rollback came during the meeting, convened by the prime minister with the Left parties, which are supporting the government from outside.

The United Progressive Alliance's chairperson Sonia Gandhi was also present during the meeting.

The left parties conveyed their views at the meeting attended among others by Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

CPM leader Basudev Acharya, CPI leader A B Bardhan and Forword Bloc leader Debabrata Biswas represented the Left parties. 

Coming out after the one-and-half-hour meeting, Bardhan told reporters they had raised the issue of the rollback of petroleum prices and the Budget should conform with the CMP.
