Nasscom wants hard talk at WTO
June 03, 2004 17:55 IST
National Association of Software and Service Companies said on Thursday that the Indian government should aggressively negotiate on services at the World Trade Organisation.
"India has inherent strength in services and we should negotiate aggressively at the WTO on removing all barriers against free trade in services," Nasscom chairman Jerry Rao told newsmen in New Delhi.
"In the next 15 years India will have the maximum number of people in working age group, even more than China. They will be our major resources and nothing creates more jobs than services," he said.
Rao said that while negotiating for freer trade in services, India should ensure that non-tariff barriers are taken care of during the WTO negotiations.
"While negotiating on services at WTO, India should also stress on removal of barriers on movement of professionals and take care that immigration laws are not used by importing countries to curb the trade in services," he said.
