Birlas rule out 'settlement'
July 24, 2004 18:23 IST
Ruling out any possibility of an out-of-court settlement with Rajendra Lodha, the Birla family on Saturday entered into consultation with their solicitors to file a reply to the probate petition of Priyamvada Birla's will.
The Calcutta high court had on Friday served notice on the Birlas after receiving the probate application of R S Lodha by the Registrar-in-insolvency in connection with the controversial will of late Priyamvada Birla.
Birla vs Lodha: War over a will
"There is no question of out-of-court settlement after taking the issue to such a high. We are in touch with not only our solicitor N G Khaitan, but also other distinguished lawyers and family friends to prepare objections to the probate petition filed by Lodha," a senior official of a Birla Group company told PTI on Saturday.
Asked if the family was also in touch with leading lawyer and consultant S Gurumurthy, the official said, "Gurumurthy is a family friend and also a famous lawyer. We are consulting him and other lawyers to prepare grounds for filing the family's objection."
"We are chalking out strategies and this is going to be a long drawn process. Hopefully, we would be filing our objection on Lodha's notice by Tuesday," he said.
Asked about the petition of Lodha praying for the dismissal of the caveat applications filed by the Birlas, the official said, "It is a legal fight. Lodha will definitely try his best."
