Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said that Thursday's Budget will focus on maintaining the growth momentum from last year.

After tabling the Economic Survey, Chidambaram said: "We need to sustain the growth, the growth momentum, and we need to consolidate. All that I hope to be able to deal with tomorrow. We have to sustain the growth momentum."

The Economic Survey has estimated GDP growth at 8.2 per cent. Fiscal deficit is estimated at 4.6 per cent, as against the 5.3 per cent estimated earlier. The revenue deficit is at 3.6 per cent, less than the earlier estimated 4.4 per cent.

Chidambaram said, "I have just placed the Economic Survey for 2003-2004 before Parliament, and urge everyone to read it. Last year, we had good growth, but please remember that last year's growth was on the back of very poor growth of the previous year."
