Jaitley may attend WTO meet in London
April 27, 2004 18:56 IST
India may be represented by Commerce Minister Arun Jaitley at an informal conclave of key trade ministers convened by the United States Trade Representative Robert Zoellick in London this week to break the impasse in the World Trade Organisation talks.
The two-day meeting beginning April 30 was to have been originally attended by Divestment Minister Arun Shourie due to Jaitley's preoccupation with elections.
Now with Shourie expressing his inability to attend, Jaitley himself is expected to make a whistle-stop trip to London, official sources said in New Delhi.
The meeting is crucial for India in that it would be able to put forth its concerns on contentious issues like agriculture that has resulted in the deadlock in the WTO talks, they said.
