HSBC to set up 2nd BPO centre by June

HSBC Electronic Data Processing (India) Pvt Ltd, the business process outsourcing arm of HSBC group, expects to start its second unit in Visakhapatnam by June.

Speaking on the sidelines of opening the HSBCs 36th branch in India at Chennai, E Prakash Kuruvilla, regional head-southern India, said, " The BPO will cater to credit card and mortgage back office processes."

HSBC Electronic Data, started in Hyderabad in 2001, with over 4,000 employees. The Hyderabad operations cater to loan processing mortgages.

HSBC Bank south region has deposits of Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion) and 2,50,000 accounts. Kuruvilla said the bank will focus on small and medium enterprises in Coimbatore and Tirupur. The bank has a branch in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

 "The bank has been focusing on personal banking over the last two years and will continue to emphasise on personal banking. HSBC Bank's core operations are corporate banking and treasury. Home loan portfolio is about Rs 2,500 crore (Rs 25 billion) and the southern region contributes 40 per cent. Bangalore and Chennai branches have been doing outstandingly well in the home loans segment and another branch is expected to be opened in Bangalore in the next few days," he added.
