IBM chief to meet Shourie on Tuesday

IT major IBM Corporation chairman Samuel J Palmisano will meet IT and Telecom Minister Arun Shourie in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The visiting IBM chief is expected to raise the pitch for Linux and open source software in India, official sources said.
"Palmisano is very upbeat on India. He will discuss with partners, customers and government the importance of Linux as a platform for future growth of the industry," IBM Asia director (external communications) Fred P McNeese told reporters in Bangalore on Monday.
Palmisano will meet Shourie to discuss IBM's open source initiatives in e-business, McNeese said.
"He will also discuss with employees, customers and the government the importance of Linux and how it fits in with e-business on demand and the future of the IT industry," he added.
Palmisano began his three-day Indian trip on Monday by meeting Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna. He is also met customers and employees.
His other engagements in the capital could not be confirmed. IBM officials refused comment on Palmisano's plans during his India visit.
IBM has over 3,600 employees working in India and had a IBM India's revenues in 2002 stood at over Rs 1,800 crore (Rs 18 billion).
