McNealy engages in Microsoft bashing

March 20, 2003 17:51 IST

The visiting Sun Microsystems chairman Scott McNealy, known for his anti-Microsoft stand, did not let go off any opportunity to hit out at his arch rival Bill Gates.

The Microsoft bashing began right from the start of his presentation at the Nasscom (National Association of  Software and Service Companies) event, on Thursday, where his opening line to the audience was, "You do not need a Microsoft office...This is a Star Office presentation."

He said viruses were features of Microsoft's popular operating system Windows, and even went to take a dig at the recent high profile visit of Microsoft chairman Bill Gates to India and his subsequent investment announcements.

"Beware of monopolistic CEOs bearing gifts", was McNealy's message to industry gathering at the CII's CEO's forum.

Comparing Sun's Solaris operating systems with Windows, he said, "if you have Windows or .Net, you can not get mobility with security."

Countering the reports that Linux was killing Sun, he said, "I cannot disagree with that more and the company that is going to be hammered by Linux is Microsoft."
