Which car should I buy?

BS Motoring Bureau | July 12, 2003 17:24 IST

I am planning to buy the Opel Corsa Sail 1.4. I would like to know whether the rear seating is comfortable or not, because I think the rear seats are a bit straight.

Also, is the engine sufficiently powerful compared to other cars in this segment? Or should I go in for the Sail 1.6? Is this car value for money? Please let me know the disadvantages.

Go for the Corsa Sail 1.4 if you are economy minded -- the 1.6 consumes more fuel and has only slightly better performance. Yes, the back seat is slightly upright, making long journeys a tad difficult.

Also if you are a tall person, you will find the driving position too cramped in the long run.

That said, the car has better ride quality than most cars in its league and also superior build quality overall. It is a nice little car that can serve you well if you take good care of it.

Package deal

I am looking for a good car, which is fuel efficient, spacious, comfortable to drive, and with a decent suspension system handle our Indian roads. My budget is between Rs 3.5 to 4.5 lakh.

This would be my first car. My eyes are on the Hyundai Santro Xing -- would you recommend any other car in this price range?

-- Vijaykumar Thurimella, via email

You have the correct car in your sight. Please go ahead and buy the Santro Xing. Remember to get yourself one with power steering and central locking -- it will be within your budget. Enjoy your new car.
