VSNL partners AT&T to offer networking service

Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd and AT&T have entered into an agreement to jointly offer Multi-Protocol Label Switching platform-based networking services in India, including ATM, Frame Relay and secure Internet Protocol dial services.
We will cater to Information Technology-enabled Services and Business Process Outsourcing sectors, resulting in saving of bandwidth costs to clients," A&T Communication Services India Pvt Ltd country general manager Sanjiv Bhagat told reporters on Tuesday.
MPLS-based platform and network would also help in creating a reliable and robust network, he added.
The companies would offer services under VSNL umbrella and target corporate customers, he said adding, the services would be provided based on clients' usage and technological requirements.
AT&T and VSNL have set up two nodes in India - Mumbai and Bangalore - and is planning to set up a third one in New Delhi by the end of this year, he added.
VSNL director (operations), N Srinath said the companies would be looking at four major verticals, ITeS, banking, financial services and insurance or BFSI, software and engineering and manufacturing industry to hawk their services.
Meanwhile, on VSNL's launch of telephone calling cards, Srinath said that infrastructure was in place and the Tata group company was awaiting clearance from the authorities.
The Internet major had received clearance for 60 locations under its National Long Distance plans, he added.
