FM hints at feel good factor for households in Budget

January 22, 2003 15:47 IST

Goverment on Wednesday hinted at a feel good factor for the average households in the forthcoming Budget saying there should be food for the hungry and money in the purse of housewives.

"There should be food for the hungry and money in the purse of the housewife," Finance Minister Jaswant Singh told a TV news channel in New Delhi before leaving for World Economic Forum in Davos.

Singh had been maintaining that the whole budgetary process would be transparent.

Deviating from the old practice of meeting the industry captains, economists and experts, it should be recalled that this time he had sought written recommendations from them for better understanding.

On the WEF, he said the main focus would be on global economic slowdown and that the investments would just be one aspect.

"It is not just a question of getting more investments, it is about the current slowdown in the world economy," the finance minister said.
