RINGTONES IN THE VALLEY: A Kashmiri woman collects a mobile telephone application form in Srinagar on August 18.

The Kashmir valley is set to resound with cellphone ringtones. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced the introduction of cellphone services in Kashmir in his Independence Day address. The terrorism-hit state had been kept out of the nation's cellular phone network due to security concerns.

Thousands lined up in mile-long queues soon after Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd began issuing forms to register cellphone users.
