28 drinking water manufacturers face action

The government has taken action against 28 manufacturers of packaged drinking water and natural mineral water for deviating from prescribed specifications, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

Replying to a spate of queries during Question Hour, Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs Sharad Yadav said no
Bureau of Indian Standards license has been cancelled so far due to the presence of pesticide residues in bottled water.

An inquiry committee into the standards for packaged drinking water and packaged natural mineral water observed
that the standards were adequate, he said.
