Cellcos must report before tariff plans: Trai
April 25, 2003 19:27 IST
Considering an increasing number of new tariff packages filed by service providers due to competitive compulsions, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India would enforce the requirement of reporting of tariff at least five days in advance of implementation.
"All service providers shall have to report all tariffs including those under forbearance as per the provisions of reporting requirements specified in Trai's earlier Telecom Tariff Order of January 22, 2002 whereby all operators have to submit their packages five days before their implementation," Trai said in a statement.
Trai's step to revert to earlier policy stemmed from cellular operators' recent reduction in STD airtime charges by about 70 per cent which led to doubts over the sustainability of these tariffs.
As per today's notification, Trai specified uniform applicability of the provisions of the reporting requirement of the tariff plans with the Authority and the order came into immediate effect, Trai said.
The regulator also asked the service providers to ensure compliance to regulatory principles of non-discriminatory and predatory pricing while offering new tariffs.
