GE agrees to help NTPC to restart Dabhol

Equipment supplier to Dabhol Power Project, GE Capital, has agreed to support National Thermal Power Corporation in assessing the plant condition and help restart generation.

A high level team comprising of representatives of GE, NTPC, Bechtel, Maharashtra State Electricity Board and IDBI-led lenders' consortium would visit the plant soon, may be within a week, for the purpose, senior power ministry officials said after Union power secretary R V Shahi held a meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Shahi, was attended by NTPC chairman and managing director C P Jain, Central Electricity Authority chairman H L Bajaj and reprsentatives of GE and MSEB.

It was agreed that the final decision with regard to the visit to the plant would be taken after getting permission from the lenders.

Officials, however, clarified that Wednesday's meeting was focussed mainly on the technical aspects of how to restart the 740-mw Dabhol Power Project.
