Geete to convene meeting on DPC soon

With stalemate continuing over restarting the phase-I of Enron promoted Dabhol power project, which is lying idle for nearly 18 months now, Union Power Minister Anant Geete said on Friday that a meeting of all stakeholders would be convened soon to look at various options.

"We have had one meeting recently and I have communicated to the state government and IDBI-led consortium of financial institutions to have another meeting before October 31 to work out a solution to restart power generation from the Dabhol phase-I project," Geete told reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of Light India exhibition in New Delhi.

Asked whether a final decision would be announced by October 31, Geete said: "The state government will have to play a crucial role in resolving this issue and we cannot say anything till all stakeholders decide on it."

Earlier in the week, the Maharashtra government rejected an offer by IDBI-led lenders to resume the purchase of power at the rate of Rs 2.86 per unit.
