With CellOne from BSNL nothing more is on sale: Mahajan

In an obvious remark against divestment of telecom PSU Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Communication and IT Minister Pramod Mahajan on Monday said with one efficient running PSU he could give maximum benefits to consumers.

"Give me one efficient running PSU and I will give a run to the entire private sector for their money. And finally the consumers will be benefited at large," Mahajan said at the launch of BSNL's cellular service - CellOne.

Mahajan defined the cellular service of BSNL in three ways - CellOne (countrywide and largest cellular service), Sellone (the largest selling service) or Sailone (sailing ahead of existing operators) and linked the name to his opposition to divestment saying "with this launch there is nothing more from BSNL on sale" indicating that he would oppose any move to disinvest in BSNL.

Mahajan's comments on divestment on a public forum on Monday came within days of his mooting a proposal over merging the two PSUs - MTNL and BSNL.
