Uma Bharti softens selloff tenorBS Economy Bureau Coal and Mines Minister Uma Bharti, who had become the latest minister to question the process of divestment, on Monday said she was not opposed to the policy per se, but demanded greater “communication” between the divestment ministry and administrative ministries. “A lot of confusion over the selloff process stems from the lack of communication between the divestment ministry and the administrative ministry concerned,” Bharti told reporters at a ceremony to present a dividend cheque of Rs 211.9 crore by Neyveli Lignite Corporation in New Delhi. The minister, however, steered clear of her letter to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on National Aluminium Company Ltd divestment saying, “I do not believe in washing dirty linen in public when there is none. I would put forth my views on the subject before the prime minister, deputy prime minister and the Cabinet.” She reiterated that she was in favour of divestment but said that she had a few points to make on the subject which she had made clear to Divestment Minister Arun Shourie. Bharti had met Shourie soon after assuming office last month. “Divestment is a good thing and it is going on correctly. The decision (to sell government companies), timing and minister, all are correct,” she added. ALSO READ:
