Yahoo! India chief Chandnani exits
BS Corporate Bureau in Mumbai Yahoo! India will see change of guard with its country head Deepak Chandnani, who was earlier with Citibank and Unilever, putting in his papers. According to sources Yahoo would be announcing a replacement to the position within the next few days and could be from within the organisation itself. The sources said Chandnani was resigning to pursue other career opportunities. Chandnani confirmed his resignation. He joined Yahoo in January 2001 as country head. In fact, he was the first country head of the company here. Chandnani was responsible for setting up the India operations. His resignation comes in the wake of rumours that Yahoo was scaling down operations in India. Executives at Yahoo, however, denied such move and confirmed that six of its employees have recently put in their papers. Yahoo! India currently has around 70 employees operating at its offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. According to a senior executive, Yahoo has undergone an internal restructuring and realignment of its operations and some of the resignations pertained to it. Sources, however, maintained that though the businesses have seen some streamlining with the aim of making it efficient, all key initiatives of the company continue to remain and pursued with the same thrust. Yahoo! India was launched in June 2000. It offers local and global information in the areas of news, finance, cricket, weather, movies, among others. The company has two main revenue streams: an online advertising business and a business development unit. The business development unit includes revenues from alliances with other companies such as mobile phone companies. The company has three mail farms in India with the total number of users pegged at around 1.4 crore (14 million). ALSO READ:
