Reliance likely to get 9 exploration blocks

Reliance Industries, which discovered a large gas field last month, is expected to get nine blocks under the third round of India's New Exploration Licencing Policy, a government official said on Monday.

India's Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs will meet later on Monday to consider bids for 23 of the 27 blocks offered under NELP-III, they said.

"The petroleum ministry has evaluated the bids and sent its recommendations for approval," the official, who did not want to be named, told Reuters.

State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp is expected to bag 10 blocks.

Eleven companies bid for the 23 blocks which include some in the Krishna-Godavari basin where Reliance found seven trillion cubic feet of gas reserves.
