Videocon plans cheaper Tablet PC
Bipin Chandran & Partha Ghosh in New Delhi Videocon International is drawing up plans to launch the Tablet PC at Rs 50,000 below Hewlett Packard's Tablet PC. HP had announced that it will price the gizmo at Rs 150,000. Videocon chairman Venugopal Dhoot said his Tablet PC will carry a price tag of Rs 99,000. Videocon is close to tying up with a Korean technology company to assemble and sell Tablet PCs in India. Tablet PC is a device that claims to combine the simplicity of paper with the power of a high-end computer. Users can scribble data on the screen with a stylus, which gets converted into text through a handwriting recognition software. As per the plans of Videocon, it would import semi-knocked down kits from Korea and assemble the machines at its Aurangabad manufacturing facility. The company plans to sell the machines at Rs 99,000 in India and is looking to sell about 1,000 units a month, Dhoot said. Microsoft had recently announced the launch of tablet PC across the world in association with various hardware partners including HP and Toshiba. The wireless enabled and highly portable Tablet PC allows users to write using an electric pen, just like one writes on a paper using a pen, save it and send them on e-mails. Apart from handwriting, the Tablet PC also has voice recognition functionality. It can also be used as a normal computer by snapping an attached and removable keyboard and convert it into a portable notebook. It even supports the use of high-end graphics and audio formats. The Tablet PC can be used in three ways, use just the screen as a writing pad, a note book PC and as a desktop computer. Combined with docking solutions, a full sized keyboard and monitor, the Tablet PC, helps users to convert it into a desktop computer. The socking solutions also allows the customers use two display monitors at once. ALSO READ:
