DPC may start generation in four months

The government on Wednesday indicated that the Dabhol Power Project, lying idle for more than 18 months now, could start generation within four months provided essential spares were made available.

"Central Electricity Authority, Maharashtra State Electricity Board and National Thermal Power Corp agreed (on Tuesday) that power generation could be possible within four to six months," R V Shahi, union power secretary said in New Delhi.

Within a week, NTPC and financial institutions led by IDBI would give a detailed programme on the action plan and fix individual responsibilities for the stake holders, Shahi said adding that since the tariff issue has been resolved, restarting the plant looked imminent.

IDBI has already given its approval to MSEB's tariff of Rs 2.80 a unit for buying power from the DPC Phase-I.

Subsequently, the Centre has asked IDBI and MSEB to make a joint representation to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission for necessary approval, a step, which would make the generation of power from the idle project possible.

Both have been asked to make the representation within two weeks from now, he added.
