India, US to cooperate in technology, trade

India and the US discussed ways and means to facilitate cooperation in technology, trade and further consolidate their multifaceted relationship.

The issues figured during wide-ranging discussions visiting US Under Secretary of State for Commerce Kenneth Juster had with foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal in New Delhi on Tuesday.

This is a follow-up to the meeting of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with President George Bush in New York in September this year when the decision of the two countries to qualitatively transform bilateral relations was reaffirmed.

The two leaders had also decided to strengthen the new Indo-US strategic dialogue.

Juster will have meetings with External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha, Defence Minister George Fernandes and national security advisor Brajesh Mishra on Wednesday.

Later this month, US Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill will visit India to carry forward the new momentum in economic dialogue.
