Arun Shourie to lead Indian delegation to Sydney WTO meet
Divestment Minister Arun Shourie, who now holds the additional charge of commerce and industry minister, will be leading the Indian delegation for the informal meeting of World Trade Organisation to be held in Sydney on November 14 and 15. The informal meeting of WTO ministers being hosted by the Australian government is intended to facilitate an exchange of views amongst WTO ministers on the progress of negotiations in the context of the Doha agenda. The next ministerial meeting of the WTO will be held in September 2003 at Cancun in Mexico. Trade ministers from about 25 member countries are expected to participate at the Sydney meet including those from Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Egypt, the European Union, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States. The post-Doha issues listed in the Sydney meet include implementation issues, special and differential treatment, trade-related intellectual property rights, public health and market access. The delegation includes Commerce Secretary Dipak Chaterjee, Additional Secretary, Commerce and Industry Ministry, S N Menon and K M Chandrashekar, ambassador of India to the WTO. UNI ALSO READ:
