India seeks more landing rights for A-I at Heathrow

Pressing for a level-playing field, India on Wednesday sought more landing rights for Air-India at London's Heathrow airport.

Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain told British secretary for Transport Alistar Darling in London: "there is a definite need for the British side to provide matching landing slots at Heathrow as this will meet India's aspirations to increase the frequencies (at Heathrow) and beyond.

"This will also help trade, investment and tourism between the two countries", Hussain said during his 40-minute meeting with Darling.

After the meeting, he said both sides felt there was an urgent need to enhance air traffic between New Delhi and London.

The two sides also discussed other bilateral civil aviation matters "in a cordial atmosphere", the minister said.

He also said a two-day government-to-government discussion on civil aviation matters would take place in London from June 20.
