Huawei appoints new COO for India centre

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Huawei Technologies Ltd, a leading global provider of telecom equipment, and the only Chinese IT company to have a wholly-owned subsidiary in India, has appointed James Yuan Ziwen as the new chief operating officer of Huawei Technologies India Ltd, its largest overseas R&D centre in Bangalore.

In his new role, James will continue the company's vision to develop a long-term strategic direction for Huawei in India.

"The company is poised to enhance development of the Next Generation telecom solutions," James said in a statement issued in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Prior to his current posting, James was the vice-president of human resources in charge of Huawei Technologies' R&D division in China.

He succeeds Jack Lu Ke, who has been promoted as vice-president of the parent company in China.

During his tenure in India, Jack was instrumental in setting competitive standards in the telecom software industry. He also played a lead role in establishing Huawei's R&D centre in Bangalore, and carrying forward the values laid down by the company.

Prior to his shifting to India, James held several positions in Huawei divisions, and has been instrumental in the deployment of its cutting edge product line in various countries.

Huawei's R&D centre in Bangalore was set up in 1999 to develop cutting-edge technologies that include wide band switching, 3G mobile communications, wireless infrastructure, network management, data communications, intelligent networks and IP applications like VoIP.

Huawei India's activities cover end-to-end ownership of products ranging from front-end process line and system conceptualization to software development, testing and delivery.
