A-I cancels Nairobi services citing aircraft shortage

Faced with a shortage of aircraft, Air-India, after cutting down services to Hong Kong, has now been forced to cancel flights to Nairobi for a fortnight.

The thrice weekly services to Nairobi would be suspended after Friday's flight to Dar-es-Salaam. Till the services are restored, the airline has come to a "understanding" with Kenya Airways to transfer some of its passengers.

Because of non-availability of aircraft, the airline has already reduced its services to Hong Kong from six to four a week.

The airline is finalising plans to hand over its first of the three A300 aircraft to Ariana, Afghanistani airline, on August 3, while a leased A310 is yet to join the fleet, leading to flight disruptions, A-I officials said.

The A310 was to join the fleet last month and is held up in Toulouse, France, due to a legal dispute between the earlier operator. There has been no definite date as to when it would fly down to Mumbai.
