'Only Shourie has the guts to proceed with divestment'

We asked our readers if they agreed with analysts view that a BJP win in Gujarat elections would lead to a surge in the stock markets.

While some readers felt that a BJP victory would ensure a stable government in the Centre and boost economic reforms, others felt that it could also hamper the divestment programme.

Here we reproduce some of the responses the query generated:

Your Views::There is no point of agreeing the same. Party was in power since last four and half year and centre is also ruling by them. They could not even rule the state for 5 years and what we expect in the next year terms except more hardship to the people.

Your Views::Markets will definetly rise if BJP wins Guj elections as the NDA govt at centre is bound to remain stable and one can hope for a politically motivated budget this year. Also a sweep in guj will indicate a sweep in M.P and rajasthan.

Your Views::Yes, the BJP win will result in an economic upswing. The BJP has helped the state of Gujrat progress from a very low position to a high position. The riots in Gujrat were unfortunate and it is not the Modi Government that sponsored the riots. The rioters were contained in time. Just because of one incident, one person cannot be given a final judgement. Modi has done his best. The business is bound to come up in Gujrat once the BJP wins.

Your Views::BJP win will ensure the disinvestment in the right direction. Congress is totally confused about where disinvestment should go from here and BJP win will ensure NDA can continue where it has left. Needless to say, stock markets will have upward rise once BJP forms the governement in Centre. It would also give a good indication to the political trend in the country. We see a rather divided and directionless opposition parties currently harping around various issues without any concrete idealogy and visition to our Economic growth. Fresh momentum will be given to Arun Shourie and Co to carry out the disinvestment and encourage FDI into the country's economy.

Your Views::I don't think the markets will respond positively to a BJP win beacuse it will spear insecurities about yet another communal riot, with the ethnic cleansing agenda the BJP has on it's cards. Investors will shy away from the possibility of an emergency like situation if the BJP is voted back to power

Your Views::IF BJP WINS, IT IS A TURNING POINT IN INDIAN POLITICS. IT PROVES THAT THE PEOPLE ARE AWARE THAT CONGRESS PARTY BELONGS TO NEHRU FAMILY AND NOT TO THE COUNTRY. THE STOCK MARKET GOES UP. THE COUNTRY WILL GET A NEW IMAGE. DURING THE CONGRESS RULE, IT WAS A BOOSTER FOR THE RELIGIOUS PARTIES IN ALL THE STATES. THE SO-CALLED CONGRESS PARTY HAS RUINED THE FUTURE OF INDIA.

As far as concern of stock market, I personally feel, it is still not mature enough to know what is good and bad. So in the basis of stock market analysis if country economy is not a good idea. Your Views::If Modi wins, the vote is more for org.s like vhp, bajrang dal etc, instead for bjp. And it will only lend strength to the anti-disinvestment campaign, which the above outfits advocate. Neither RSS nor vhp or bajrang dal supports the disinvestment process being carried out by the centre, and they are only putting more spokes on the process. So, Vajpayee can declare that people have given a mandate for bjp and its economic policies but any fresh impetus to the disinvestment process cannot be expected. If at all RSS and other outfits stay away from openly criticizing and stopping the disinvestment process, that in itself will improve the chances for realization of disinvestment targets and provide a lease of life to the markets. But its not a easier thing to happen. A victory in Gujarat will be good for Modi but not entirely for BJP.

Your Views::The economy can lift provided there is a will allalong. But, in India the palnning fail and so we may not be able to achieve this target, the main reqsond can to attribute4d to : 1. Polititians are not serious. they see thewir interest only. 2. Industrialist belioeve in not paying and doing business only unaccounted. This is the fact which does not have any written proofe but everybody knows. 3. The Officers-revanue as well as administrative, are just doing the same what others are doing instead of taking decisioons required as per their duty. 3. No body is interested to swork. General feeling that they get salary for going to office. 4. General belioef that "bribery" is a point of respect. Even to a peon, his relatives will ask "what is uppar se" and about his salary. However, the thins can be set right, if strong poleticasl will is there and rules/laws are ammended for payment for work even in government departments. The IT tax should be amended and replaced with expenditure tax without delay. One can hide income but not the expenditure. I think, there is mush to say, but requires peacefull writing. However, even if something is written, who bothers?

Your Views::A BJP victory will be the end of progress in not only Gujarat but also India. A party which is headed by somebody to whom progress, development, etc do not mean anything (since he concentrates only on superficiaal, escapist issues) can never, never, NEVER EVER, lead a state to progress. Progress comes through peace and a feeling of goodwill towards all in society. It is hampered by restlessness, alienation and sullenness and anger in a large section of the society. If even two more Akshardham incidents happen here (which they will), one can imagine the devastation it will cause. Whither progress? Whither stock markets?? Whither business???

Your Views::Yes i do agree that BJP's victory in Gujrat election will boost up Central Govt. moral and Govt will get confidance into it's disinvestment plan. This will really impact our Economy. On the other hand if BJP looses the Poll it's going to be a big triuble for India and it will be worse than Godhra and aftermath incidents.

Your Views::It has to be an Undoubtful, Unanemious Victory for BJP and Shri Narendra Modi. It is not only the Hindu Card which has made the Party and Shri Modi lovable amongst the state, but it is also issues like water to remote places in saurashtra, electricity in all small villages, roads, education and other developmental works which BJP government has been able to achive in 5 years tenure, which the Congress did not even think of doing in their tenure of 45 years. Also, the other important issue is Security of the Hindus. Though it is not a big thing, but when parties like congress & SP are using the minorities for gaining their political motives and wrongfully strengthening them, BJP has proved that they are concerned not only for the Majorities but the minorities, the relief camps all around the state during the times of riots is the best example for the same. Thus, it is very clear and welcomable that BJP and Narendra are again going to handle the Ship called Gujarat

Email:sukumar98@rediffmail.com
Your Views::The victory of BJP i gujraat will ensure a stable Govt in Gujraat as well as in the centre. This will also ensure the confidence of the investors is high and their investments are safe. Whereas the Congress victory could be viewed as a setback to the economic reforms on the basis of the J&K govt performance, where they released a lot of militants and the situation is becoming worse day by day. The same is the case in Karnataka and other states, where menace of Veerappan is still a threat. But it will be better if modi moves to centre after winning the elections because whole country needs a leader like Modi ji (Chhote Sardar). who can take tough decisions if required during the crucial times.

Your Views::I think it will be definately good for markets.but there r still things to do for BJP 1.population is the most important factor.i dont know why single party is addressing this great problem. i think modi can implement this in gujarat becomming more favourite to gujarati hindus and people all the country and become role model to other states 2.privatisation sholud be done fast and carefully. 3.Our ministers should solve the interior problems first and then ask the international community. for example we argue that WTO rules r for rich countries not for developing nations.will the same minister gives equal importance to rich and poor in india. 4.inside BJP there r lot of differences(especially divestmennt process).there will be different views between mistries but they should not come out directly to press they need some kind of secrecy. BJP ministers r good they need unity, and need to do much and speak less. i dont have any words to tell about congress they always want to support muslims for vote bank.they did all bullshit things from starting giveing subsidies for votes. i am not against subsidies but we should not give subsidies for life long.
