Suresh Prabhu denies resignation reports

Union Power Minister Suresh PrabhuUnion Power Minister Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday denied reports that he has resigned from the government.

"The reports that I have resigned are totally false and baseless," he said over the telephone from Shirdi in Maharashtra, reacting to the rumours from Shiv Sena's conclave in Shirdi that he had quit following differences with party chief Balasaheb Thackeray.

Asked as to why such reports could have surfaced, he said some 'motivated elements' could have spread this rumour.

On the issue of his reported differences with Thackeray, Prabhu said, "In fact, I talked to Thackeray-ji after hearing the news and he has asked me to issue the statement denying the reports."

Prabhu was unable to reach the party convention as he was held up some where and this is understood to have triggered the reports about his resignation from the council of ministers.
