Enron probe terms of references to be ready next week: CM

The terms of references of the judicial probe into the Enron power project would be finalised at next week's Cabinet meeting, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said in Bombay on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting at Mantralaya, the chief minister said that the delay was due to the ill-health of energy secretary Vinay Mohan Lal.

Lal, who has been hospitalised, will undergo a heart by-pass surgery soon. In his place, housing secretary Ravi Buddiraja, will look after the energy department, the chief minister informed.

The decision to institute a judicial probe was taken at the co-ordination committee meeting of the Democratic Front government recently.

A judicial probe was one of the recommendations of the Madhav Godbole committee set up to review the Enron project, but there was no unanimity among the committee members on this issue.

However, the Left party partners of the DF government, who have always opposed the Enron project were firm on a judicial probe.
