Ranbaxy's unit gets US nod for anxiety drug

A wholly-owned unit of India's top drugmaker by sales, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd, has got the US Food and Drug Administration's approval to sell the anxiety drug Lorazepam in the United States, the Bombay Stock Exchange said.

Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc would immediately launch the drug in the US, the company said in a notice to the exchange at the weekend.

The company also said sales of Lorazepam in 2000 totalled $336.5 million, with the tablet sales alone contributing $270.4 million.
